The Triumphal Entry: Matthew 21:1-11 Mark 11:1-11 Luke 19:28-40 John 12:12-19

It was the ultimate parade. Palm branches waving, cloaks tossed like a makeshift red carpet, and the shouts of Hosanna! filling the air. But here’s the plot twist: the celebrity at the center of it all wasn’t riding in a chariot or on a war horse. He chose a donkey. I couldn’t help but wonder; what kind of King announces himself with humility instead of grandeur? What kind of Savior accepts the cheers, knowing the same voices might cry crucify days later?

The Triumphal Entry was more than a parade. It was a declaration: God’s kingdom doesn’t look like Rome’s empire and power doesn’t have to roar to be real. Sometimes power looks like peace. Sometimes victory looks like surrender. And maybe that’s the lesson for us too. We want our lives to be the parade: the applause, the palm branches, the moment where everyone sees us shining. But Jesus reminds us that the real triumph isn’t in the spotlight. It’s in choosing humility, in showing up with gentleness, in carrying peace into a world that expects power plays.

So maybe the question isn’t “Where’s my parade?” but “What kind of King am I following?” Because if the answer is Jesus, then the road we walk will be less about thrones and more about love.
