Matthew 24, Mark 13, Luke 21:5-36

There we were, the disciples marveling at the temple, pointing out the grandeur, the stones stacked like proof that something this solid could last forever. And then Jesus says, “Not one stone here will be left on another.” Talk about a record scratch moment. Suddenly it wasn’t about the beauty of the temple, but about the fragility of everything we cling to. Wars, earthquakes, famine, betrayal, false prophets, the sun darkened, the moon not giving its light; it sounds like every apocalyptic movie ever made. Except this isn’t Hollywood. It’s Jesus and he isn’t selling tickets, he’s telling the truth. The disciples wanted timelines and certainty. We want them too. But Jesus never gave them a date. Instead, he gave them a posture: Stay awake. Be ready. Lift your head, because your redemption is near.

And I couldn’t help but wonder—
is the point not about decoding the end, but about how we live in the middle?
What if Jesus wasn’t trying to frighten us, but to free us? Free us from the illusion that kingdoms, buildings, and even our best plans will last forever. Free us to live awake, alive, and unafraid.

The world shakes. Stones tumble. But the words of Jesus will never pass away. And maybe that’s the invitation: to loosen our grip on what feels unshakable, and cling instead to the One who holds us steady.

Gracefully yours,
